HOST COMMITTEE MEMBERS LIST
Healing What’s Hurting Our Children

At National CARES we are enthusiastically implementing our programmatic work—now delivered virtually by our psychologists, social workers, case managers and volunteer mentors. Though among the vulnerable we serve in our group-mentoring format, there have been incalculable losses: Many children’s caregivers have lost their jobs; some adults have passed away from the virus. There are children in households without computers, communities without broadband service and adults who feel incapable of providing home-learning support. Students already at the bottom of the academic-achievement ladder are falling even further behind. But National CARES is devoted, and we are nimble! Our work is built to stand in the center of where the harms of poverty live.
Giving the Children a Chance!

We have good news: Urged and guided by CARES’ boots-on-the-ground facilitators, and dutiful teachers and principals, we are expanding our culturally anchored curricula, which ignites the passion for discovery that all children are born with. In under-resourced, overwhelmed, poverty schools, that flame often flickers and dies. National CARES is in service to children and parents living with the indignity of poverty, and we are meeting their life-shredding moments of loss with ingenuity, technology, cultural competency, compassion and love. We are working with clear focus on meeting the need for deep healing due to the traumas of so much loss, the fear of an unknown future and the continued pressure applied by unjust systems.
Healing What’s Hurting Our Children

Group-mentoring is a low-cost and powerful way to strengthen and transform fragile lives, create community and build resilience. CARES provides marginalized children what’s been denied them: a sense of belonging and evidence that they are valued by caring adults who will not let them fall. Our 30-week curriculum unearths hope, self-confidence and a love for learning needed to graduate from high school prepared for post-secondary learnings and financial stability. We create a culture of mutuality and high achievement. CARES’ University for Parents, provides workforce-development and entrepreneurial trainings for children’s first mentors. This celebrated program helps economically displaced parents transform their family’s lives.
